The case of Özgür Gündem heard 2017-03-07 16:27:32 İSTANBUL – Trial of Özgür Gündem Newspaper is heard with judged six journalists, author who campaigned for solidarity with newspaper as “ executive editor”. The trial of closed Özgür Gündem Newspaper is heard which six journalists and authors are judged because of solidarity with newspaper as executive editor in İstanbul 22nd Heavy Penal Court . Journalists Nadire Mater, Hasan Cemal, authors Yıldırım Türker, İlham Bakır, Murat Uyurkulak and artist Jülide Kural attended the trial which they are judged. Mater demanded to drop the charges because there was no any situation to being sued. Yarar said “ This solidarity is important to show what Özgür Gündem and Kurdish medias are living.” After statement of Yarar, the court boards decided to punish him for one year three months prison sentence on charges of “propaganda for illegal organization” and six thousand Turkish Lira fine on charges of “Publishing the illegal organization’s statement” . Journalist Türker was punished one year 10 months and 15 days prison sentence on charge of “ propaganda for illegal organization”. Hasan Cemal was fined for six thousand Turkish Lira on charge of “ publishing the illegal organization’s stamement.
