Hundred thousands celebrate Newroz in Diyarbakır

DİYARBAKIR – Hundred thousand people attended to Newroz Celebration in Diyarbakır. Discharged co-mayor of Mardin Municipality Ahmet Türk “ The ones who jailed Kurdish politicians and destroyed cities of Kurdistan  will give account of these in front of history. But the thing we need to do is a dignity standing. I don’t believe that a single Kurd will swallow their dignity” said. HDP spokes person Osman Baydemir stated that hundreds thousand  people who attended Newroz opened the way that goes  to peace and freedom.

Hundreds thousand  citizen of Diyarbakır celebrated the Newroz led-by DBP (Democratic Region Party) and HDP ( Peoples’ Democratic Party).

Numbers representatives of politic parties, NGOs took place in the protocol to attend the Newroz Celebration. It was also reported that  Imprisoned co-chair of HDP Demirtaş’s wife Başak Demirtaş and families those lost their relatives in Nusaybin, Sur and Cizre during curfew joint the protocol.

The event began with stand in silence for commemoration of all who lost their life for freedom and peace.

At first HDP Diyarbakır Province co-chair Ruken Akça spoke to people. “ Kurdistan region witnessed to cruel people such as Dehak and Saddam. But every period Kurd beat to all of them with significant resistance. People of Kurdistan! All world knows that how we have love for freedom, hope and peace. 

Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair Leyla Güven spoke to people after Akça. “ Newroz is important for Kurds because they conduct congress on this day. And we are conducting our congress now with people of Amed. Kurd paid heavy price for years to celebrate this day. We lost many friends to celebrate this day.

Kurds never bowed in front of cruelty and never will. Mehmet Tunç, Sévé, Asiye, Pakize and Fatma were ready for people and they light this Newroz’s torch. We celebrating  all imprisoned politicians included Sebahat Tuncel, Figen Yüksekdağ, Selahattin Demirtaş” said Güven.

Güven also called to leaders from four part of Kurdistan for unity.

 Discharged co-mayor Ahmet Türk spoke on the stage after Güven. Türk “ Kurds are under the attack while they celebrate the Newroz on 2017. They are making mistaken. Because oppressions never worked in any periods. Half century war continued in Colombia. Over 200 hundred thousand people lost their life but problem was resolved with peace negotiation. Same in South Africa. Therefore  we say give up to old and useless practices and take in consideration Öcalan’s call on 2013’s Newroz. Because there is no other way.

There is a referendum on April 16 after this Newroz. All asks what Kurds are going to vote. Referendum is not only important for Kurds but also for all peoples in Turkey. But there is a special meaning for Kurds. Today our co-chairs are in dungeon. Are we going to say to ‘Yes’ the one who follow the dungeon policy towards Kurds? Of course we will say ‘No’. Are we going to say ‘Yes’ to atrocities of Cizre, Nusaybin and Sur? Therefore we should take in consideration these things too” said to people.

HDP spokesperson and Urfa parliamentarian Osman Baydemir spoke to hundred thousands people after Ahmet Türk. 

“ Negotiation table was set up by Öcalan’s manifestation couple years ago by Newroz Celebration. We confirmed the table by Öcalan’s manifestation which was read to us on Diyarbakır Newroz Celebration. But they sacrificed the peace to general election. They sacrificed the peace to their position, to their own future.

All society lived peaceful  for two years after declaration of peace negotiation on 2013’s Newroz. We one more call to Ankara to return peace negotiation” said Baydemir.
