Demirtaş and Tuncel to go on hunger strike 2017-03-30 13:27:17 İSTANBUL – HDP co-chair Selhattin Demirtaş, DBP co-chair Sebahat Tuncel and Hakkari parliamentarian Abdullah Zeydan launch hunger strike from tomorrow to protest right violations in prison. HDP Siirt parliamentarian Besime Konca is in hunger strike since six days. Imprisoned HDP’s (Peoples’ Democratic Party) co-chair Demirtaş and lawmaker Zeydan sent message by their lawyer and stated they are launching to hunger strike. “In consequences of Edirne Prison’s stance of no dialogue, unlawful practices,in human practices against other prisoners and the complete lack of good intention regarding endin of hunger strikes that have been continuing for days, we too, from Friday on, will begin a hunger strike. We invite the public to display sensitive regarding the hunger strike and violation rights continuing in prisons” said Demirtaş and Zeydan in a statement from Edirne Prison. Democratic Regions Party (DBP) co-chair Tuncel “ Indefinite hunger strike without rotation which was launched to protest against isolation over Mr. Öcalan, return to negotiation table and right violations in prison is reached a critical point. It is important that molding public opinion by human rights organization, democratic fronts, politic parties and our people to satisfy these demands by democratic channels. Therefore I will begin a hunger strike with friends in prison from April First to April 5 to satisfy these demands” said in a statement. Meanwhile imprisoned HDP lawmaker Besime Konca has been in hunger strike since six days.
