Human Rights Association (İHD), Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (THİV) and Libertarian Lawyers Platform (ÖHP) made a statement on continuing hunger strike of prisoners in İHD headquarter. İHD co-chair Öztürk Türkdoğan said hunger strike is continuing since February 15 and added “ 76 prisoners included 17 women are on hunger strike in different six prisons. Demands of prisoners are constitutional rights which government already should have provided.” THİV general secretary Metin Bakkalcı spoke after Türkdoğan and said hunger strike is not only prisoners responsibility but also peoples. “ Turkey have lived this process number times. As society we need to be shame. Turkey haven’t witnessed in its history that prison numbers have raised four time in 11 years and anyone know how prisoners are kept in prisons. Therefore these prisoners have no choice to stop these treatments except hunger strike. We as health care workers are against to people to heart their bodies. But we need to respect that. Because their basic aim is to have back their rights. 35-40 days are risk point on hunger strike. 48 days is alarm point. Actually resolving problem is simple” said Bakkalcı.
