People meet for Öcalan's birthday despite 'Martial Law' 2017-04-04 13:56:05 URFA – PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s birthday was celebrated in Amara village of Urfa where he was born despite ‘martial law’ order. Öcalan’s brother Mehmet Öcalan asked to remove isolation over PKK leader and re-continue negotiation immediately and DTK co-chair Leyla Güven said “People showed commitment to Öcalan again to come here.” PKK (Kurdistan Worker Party) leader Abdullah Öcalan 68th birthday was celebrated in Amara (Ömerli) village of Halfeti county in Urfa. Number people included Öcalan’s family, DTK (Democratic Society Congress) co-chair Leyla Güven, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) parliamentarians Dilek Öcalan, Mahmut Toğrul, Behçet Yıldırım, Member of Peace Mothers council, Free Women Movement (TJA) members, HDP and DBP (Democratic Regions Party) members attended to celebration in front of the house where Öcalan was born. Beginin of the meeting , Öcalan’s picture and traditional Kurdish colors (Yellow,red and green) were hanged on the house. After standing in silence, people chanted “Bijî Serok Apo" ( Long live leader Apo) , "Rojbûna te pîroz be ey Serok" ( Happy Birthday to you leader) ve "Bê Serok jiyan nabe” ( No life without leader) and Öcalan’s brother Mehmet Öcalan made a speech. “ All celebration of Öcalan was like festival but this year they were annoyed. We wanted to celebrate worthily to Kurds and its leader but because of forbidden mindset we couldn’t. All entrance of county and the village were blockaded by state forces. They have to remove isolation and lock down over our leader” said Mehmet Öcalan. After Mehmet Öcalan, DTK co-chair Güven made a speech. “ I want to thank all people who came here despite all blockades. Birth of Mr. Öcalan is also re-birth of Kurdish people. Kurdistan’s people are coming here every year despite blocking and oppressions. This is a clear indicator to their leader” said Güven. Güven also reminded Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu’s threat by saying “ No one will go to Amara”. “ This movement saw many people like Soylu. But they are not exist anymore. This people and Mr. Öcalan are still exist” said Güven.
