Police batters the lawyers during protest in courthouse of Çağlayan 2017-04-06 13:53:12 İSTANBUL – Lawyers who sat in protest inside the courthouse of İstanbul for “freedom for defense right” were battered by police and pulled from the courthouse. Number people included HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) parliamentarian Garo Paylan and Filiz Kerestecioğlu , CHP (Republic People Party) parliamentarian Hilmi Yarayıcı made protest for imprisoned Cumhuriyet Newspaper’s lawyers Akın Atalay, Bülent Utku and Mustafa Kemal Güngör by slogan “ freedom for defense right” inside the courthouse of Çağlayan in İstanbul and declared that they will protest every Thursday between 11.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. until imprisoned lawyers to be released. Riot police blockaded around the building while lawyers were protesting. It was reported that police intervened to protestors after a while and some lawyers got injured. It was also reported that lawyers named Diren Yeşil, Özge Serdal, Kemal Aytaç, Kıvanç Kayaoğlu, Sevinç Sarıkaya, İsmail Anıl Başoğlu and Hatice Nur Gök were taken into custody. Meanwhile the court house was closed for civilian after lawyers insisted to enter the courthouse.
