DBP : Trustees were appointed to 83 municipalities and our 89 co-mayors are imprisoned

DİYARBAKIR –Local administrations committee of DBP announced that trustees were appointed to 83 in 103 municipalities of DBP was elected on local election and also 89 co-mayors are jailed. It was also mentioned appointed trustees are tasked as social engineering of the region and follow the politic agenda of government.

Local Administration of DBP (Democratic Region Party) announced its report about appointing trustees to the municipalities which DBP co-mayors were elected and imprisoned co-mayors. Vice co-chair of DBP Emine Özmen and dismissed co-mayor of Batman Gülistan Akel and co-mayor of Hazro Güler Özavcı attended the press meeting.

Emine Özmen mentioned co-mayors of DBP began to jailed from 2015 right after conflict process has started. “ Trustees began to appointed to DBP’s municipality from September 11 of 2016, right after coup attempt of July 15. Trustees were appointed to 83 of 103 municipalities which DBP was elected and 89 co-mayors are imprisoned until March 27 of 2017.  According to  report we announce, seized municipalities by appointing trustee is not aimed to follow politic agenda of the government but also aimed to destroy improvements of Kurdish society such as gender equality, multicultural policy. 

After trustees were appointed to municipalities,  37 women centers were closed without any justification” said Özmen.


Özmen also stated that refugee camp which was established by municipality for Ezidis whom fled to Turkey after DAİŞ attack was closed by trustee and Ezidis were forced to transfer to Midyat camp” said Özmen. It was also mentioned in the report that multilingual policy of DBP’s municipality was removed by appointed trustee.

“ 2022 workers of municipality of DBP were dismissed  and 585 workers were suspended after trustees were appointed by Interior Minster’s decree” said Özmen.
