ÖGİ : We demand susceptiblity from the public opinion to protect journalist activity

DİYARBAKIR – ÖGİ asked susceptibility from the public opinion for Nedim Türfent’s trail on June 14 Türfen  is kept in a single cell since 13 months because his journalists activities.




Free Journalist Initiative (ÖGİ) made a written statement for Closed Dicle News Agency (DIHA) reporter Nedim Türfent who is jailed in Van F Type High Security Prison since 13 months because of his journalist activities. ÖGİ remarked Türfent is kept in a single room since 15 months and he was transferred to five different prisons during this time and his sportive and social activities were seized unlawfully.




“ Journalist Nedim Türfent who was threated by dead via social media which are used by soldiers and police is jailed because of his reports during curfew in Yüksekova County of Hakkari and he is facing with up to 22.5 years prison sentence. The first trial of Türfent will be heard in Second Heavy Penal Court of Hakkari on June 14.




We as ÖGİ are expecting susceptibility from the public opinion to protect journalist activity. Because Türfent is jailed due to his journalist activities. Journalism is not a crime and we demand Nedim Türfent and other imprisoned journalists to be released immediately” said ÖGİ.
