Armenian church faces with being destructed in Sur 2017-06-14 11:09:09 DİYARBAKIR – Surp Sarkis Church in Sur which was ravaged by treasure hunters is under duress. Murat Mıhçı from Nor Zartonk said destruction decision of the church is a historic genocide and they will struggle against this. Launched destruction in Alipaşa and Lalebey neighborhoods of Sur where was home to 33 different civilizations during history is also destroying historical structures. Catholic Armenian Church Surp Sarkis Church which was named Çeltik Church after Armenian Genocide is facing with destruction. According to some sources the church had been build at 16th century. The church which wasn’t renovated by Culture Ministry is declared as risky space and was given destruction decision. HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Central Executive Committee member and Nor Zartonk-Armenian Culture Association’s member Murat Mıhçı told the church was renovated by people of Diyarbakır and Armenian Community but after curfew was declared in Sur on November 28 of 2015 for 103, church was damaged due to conflicts. “ Re-destroying church and destruction decision of it is a historic genocide” says Mıhçı. Mıhçı remarked Armenian was one of the constituent nation of Diyarbakır and said “ But Armenians was forced to migrate or were killed a hundred years ago Therefore there left a few structures in Sur from Armenian. The things what was committed to Armenians is committing to other peoples right now.”
