İSTANBUL –Imprisoned HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş attended to one of his trial by SEGBİS and showed his address as TBMMM.

The trial of imprisoned Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş was heard in 34th Penal Court of First Instance of Kartal in İstanbul. Demirtaş attended the trial by SEGBİS ( Sound and Image Information System) from Kandıra F Type Prision. Party of European Socialist (PES) chair Sergey Stanishev, Sweden Left Party chair Jonas Sjöstedt , HDP Group Deputy Chairperson Filiz Kerestecioğlu and ther HDP PMs also attended to trial as observer.



The trial began with identification. Demirtaş showed his address as the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) when judge asked official address of him.

Here is summary of Demirtaş statement;


“ I am not aiming to have long speech on this accusation.




I am judged on claim of that I threated the some media organs. I am co-chair of a politic party which elected by over six millions. But I am also judged in different 30 cities of Turkey.




I am a politician and I have to defense myself as a politician. The accusation had been prepared by a complaint petition without changing even any single word. Therefore I can’t say this is accusation which was prepared by prosecution. There is zero investigation on this trail.




An explosion was occurred in Diyarbakır Demonstration a day ago while I criticized that media organ that because they were targeting to our party. I carried tens of wounded people after the explosion.




Mr. Judge we are a part of Turkey and we exist from west to east. But over 500 buildings of our party were targeted by pro-government media. But unfortunately none of prosecutors launched even an investigation.




So can we believe that judgment system provides justice for us?

What I demand from the judicial office is fair trial. But I see AKP (Justice and Development Party) makes pressure over the judicial office. I need to remind that judicial is not a toy of anyone. Not a stick of power.




Also deputyship of our co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ was stripped unlawfully. There is no doubt this is desiring suppression of opponents.”




After Demirtaş speech, lawyers made defense to the court board.




Meanwhile PES chair Sergei Stanishev and PMs made a press statement during trial is continuing in front of Courthouse.



“To being here is show us that we are in solidarity with HDP leader Demirtaş. This trail is a politic trial. Because co-chairs didn’t anything unlawful. They represented the people who elected them” said Stanishev.
