İSTANBUL – Özgür Gündem Newspaper consultative committee member linguistic scientist Necmiye Alpay stood her first trial. Alpay said “This case is same as Voltaire Case’s” during the trial.


Necmiye Alpay and editor in chief of Özgür Gündem Newspaper İnan Kızılkaya stood ready for the case in Çağlayan 22nd Heavy Penal Court.

Numbers of academician, artists, author, journalist and human rights activists participated the case as well. Tens lawyer had defended Alpay and Kızılkaya.

After reading the accusation. Alpay had pleaded against accusation. Alpay said she decided to be director of Newspaper for one day for remarking freedom of press. Alpay also said tgat her case is liken Voltaire Case’s.

After Alpay pleading İnan Kızılkaya said “Critical approach is a human right.The best journalist in the world can check our news. I will accept the charges if they see anything missed. We made news about KCK ( Kurdistan Communities Union) statements .Before “Peace process” were end all journalist had camped in Qandil. Even Yeni Şafak Newspaper were there. We do journalism same as others do”.
