Would you draw a picture of your room? : Daughter of Demirtaş

DİYARBAKIR – İmprisoned DHP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş wife Başak Demirtaş spoke about the night he was detained. Police didn’t wait for lawyers and they annoyed by ringing the bell said Başak Demirtaş. Mother Demirtaş also said, her daughter Dılda had sent empty papers to his father and asked to draw the room he is living.




Başak Demirtaş said that they waked up by neighbors’ phone calling on November 4 at 1.20 a.m. “A neighbor from down stair called us up and said police are coming up stair. I, my husband and our children were sleeping. I awaked up my husband and said “police have come. In a moment they knocked the door “said Başak Demirtaş.



“After knocking the door my husband had moved toward to door. We came to deliver a notice said police. But my husband refused to open the door until his lawyer came here. Then he made a call to his lawyer. Bu police officers didn’t wait for lawyers and they annoyed by ringing the bell. At that point my husband was checking the social media and he realized that police were organizing simultaneous operation” said Başak Demirtaş.



“Kids were sleeping and we awaked them up. I had already spoke with children about this possible situation. I was thinking that children were ready for that. But it wasn’t.Because my younger daughter was nervous. She started to cry .Police were keeping annoy by ringing the bell within this period. Therefore my husband opened the door and checked the warrant. Only one police got inside until my husband was preparing to go with them” said Başak Demirtaş.




According to Başak Demirtaş police forces had pointed the gun to their neighbors while they wanted to come out with Selahattin Demirtaş.

It was hard time to leave and say goodbye to Selahattin Demirtaş for his younger daughter before he left , said Başak Demirtaş.




“My younger daughter shows easily her emotions. She keens on her father. She didn’t let her father go but her father told her that he needed to go and he will back again. He said to me “There is nothing to fear”. I said ‘ I am not fearing’.”




Başak Demirtaş also told the process of first 15 days before phone speaking with Selahattin Demirtaş;




“We become together with children before we speak with their father. At first children were faltering. My husband had written a letter to his younger daughter. “You sent a letter for me but I can’t read it” she said. My younger daughter is wondering where her father’s room look like. She sent a letter with some blank pages and asked “ Would you draw a picture of your room?”
