İSTANBUL – passports of 46 journalists who are judged under name of ‘KCK Press Case’. Court board renovated the decision of former court board which ordered to seize the passports of journalists.
The trial of ‘KCK ( Kurdistan Communities Unions) Press’ Casa which 46 journalists are judged has began in the Third Heavy Penal Court of Istanbul. Journalists Davut Uçar, Ertuş Bozkurt, Mazlum Özdemir, Çağdaş Kaplan, Sadık Topaloğlu, Turabi Kişin, Evrim Kepenek, Ayşe Oyman, Selahattin Aslan, Güneş Ünsal, Sibel Güler, Hamza Sümeli and Çağdaş Ulus attended the trail. It was also reported lawyers of Libertarian Lawyers’ Platform attended the trial to defend journalists.
Despite former court board canceled the passports of journalists, new court board wrote a formal letter to police headquarter for canceling passports of journalists again.
It was also reported court board delayed the trial on October 13.
About the case
32 journalists had been jailed after the operation towards Kurdish media outlets such as Dicle News Agency, Özgür Gündem Newspaper, Azadiya Welat Newspaper, Democratic Modernity Magazine and Fırat Marketin Company on December 24 of 2011. Journalists had been jailed by proves of journalists activities such as interviews, taken pictures, followed press conferences, news sources. 17 of 32 journalists were released during two years of imprisonment period and rest of them were released after special courts were closed.
