ADANA – According to report of right violations in Tarsus T Type Women Prison which was released by Human Rights Association (IHD), soldiers and guards told ‘ No one will realize even if we kill you’ to the prisoners. According to report, women who transferred to other prisons were exposed to torture during the transportation.

İHD’s Adana and Mersin branches prepared a report about rights violations

towards women prisoners in Tarsun T Type Women Prison. According to report, 80 women from Tarsus C Type Women Closed Prison were transferred to Tarsus T Type Women Prison on June 21. It was reported women were exposed to torture during transfer by soldiers.




Prisoner named Evin Şahin told to İHD “ Prisoner named Fadime Demir’s watch was seized and she was battered because she objected that her watch was seized. After objection became to discussion, five soldiers draggingly Fatma to the vehicle. Then they began to humiliate her with words. Soldiers told us ‘ No one will realize even if we kill you’. When we arrived the new prison where we would kept, they continue to attack us. Our friend Selvi Atak was hurt from her back because she was threw to the ground by soldiers. She was bleeding. Then guards took us inside the prison. We were taken to searching room. A while later, guards began to torture us too. I couldn’t even stand up because I am thin and a renal patient” said Şahin.




Despite Şahin was hurt and she applied to receive medical treatment, she wasn’t sent to doctor for treatment, according to report. “ I felt faint twice due to torture. I sent a petition to General Directorate of Prisons. There is no even water in prison because it was constructed a short time ago. All of our belongings were taken when we transferred here. We were told that belongings will be given again. But we couldn’t take our belongings. We are 15 in a wing. They give us a few food. We all are suffering from hunger. There is no fridge nor television. All of our books and letter were seized” said Şahin to İHD.



Prisoner Ayşe Bozkurt says they are 17 people in 16 capacity wing and they cant even drink water from the tap. “ There is no warm water to take shower. A few food is given to use. They response ‘ we just opened this prison’ to us after we sent any kind of petition. They are telling us ‘these are your best days” said Bozkurt.





According to report’s evaluation ;



1. Women prisoners were exposed to torture during transfer to another prison from Tarsus T Type Women Closed Prison by soldiers. After prisoners arrived the prison, they also exposed to torture by authorities of prison. Prisoners were forced to tell ‘ I surrounded’ when warden of prison and commandership of prison came. It was also reported women were prostrated and soldiers step on women’s head with their foots.

2. After prisoners were sent to wings, transferring to doctors and receiving battery report were banned by authorities.

3. Prisoners were left without waters.

4. Prisoners’ belongings weren’t given to prisoners during four days. Most of their needs were rejected by authorities.
