İHD and TİHV announc their Human Rights Report

ANKARA – İHD and TİHV announced their reports about human rights violations.

Human Rights Association and Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) announced their reports of human rights violations in 2016 due to Human Rights Day on November 10.


TİHV council member Sezai Dardaş and İHD co-chair Öztürk Türkdoğan shared their reports in front of the press. Announced reports headlines are “ right to life”, “torture and maltreatment”, “Kurdish Question”, “ Thought, Expression and Belief Freedom” , “ Coup Attempting and State of Emergence”, “Prisons” ,” Freedom of Organizing”, “ Assembly and Demonstration Freedom” and “ Violence Question against Women”.


Here is the summary of the reports:

Right to life


* 341 people were killed and 396 people were wounded by law enforces by reason of disobeying stop warning.



* 76 people had lost their life, 160 were wounded in boundary layers.


* 184 people were lost their life and 633 were wounded by Illegal armed organizations, especially bomb attacking by ISIL.



* Five people lost their life into the custody

* 25 people were killed by unidentified murder

* At least 32 people lost their life from different reason in Prisons.

* At least 20 people queerly lost their life at necessary military service.

* 17 people included 13 children lost their life and 51 included 41 children wounded by mine and ownerless bombs

* 406 soldiers, police and village guards, 605 militants and 29 civils lost their life by armed conflict in 2016. 1065 soldiers, police and village guards were wounded, 17 militants and 75 civils were wounded.

* 2 people were disappeared into custody in 2016.


*At least 1.816 workers lost their life by working accident


Torture and Maltreatment

* First 11 months of 2016 1.622 people manifested that they were tortured during they were kept into custody and public spaces

Kurdish Question


* Between 16 August 2015 and 16 August 2016 the curfew declared in Diyarbakır (61 times), Mardin (18 times), Şırnak (times) and Hakkari (11 times). According to 2014 population census results, at least one million and 671.000 people’s life and health rights were violated.

* At least 321 civilians included 79 children, 71 women and 30 over 60-year-old were detected that they were killed during the curfew between 16 August 2015 and 16 August 2016.


*Around half million civilians were forced to migrate due to curfew in region.


* 50 co-mayors were jailed.


* Number of Village Guards kept to increase in 2016

* Around 15.000 HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) and DBP (Democratic Regions Party) members, politicians and supporters were detained and 5.600 of them were jailed on 2016.

* 10 HDP parliamentarians included co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ were jailed.


Thought, Expression and Belief Freedom

* 146 journalists were jailed

* Five news agency, 16 television channels, 24 radios, 62 newspapers, 19 magazines, 29 publish houses were closed by Decree with Power of Law in 2016.

* According to www.engelliveb.com website data, 116.125 websites were blocked by government.

Coup Attemption and State of Emergence

* Between July 5-November 10, over 60.000 people were detained and over 36.000 people were jailed.

* 1.061 infant, primary and high schools, 15 private universities, 113 student dormitories were closed.
* 35 health center, over 1.600 associations and foundations, 19 unions were closed, 50 DBP’s municipalities were taken and trustees were appointed.

* At least 80.000 people’s passports were canceled or suspended.

Prisons

*First 11 months of 2016 32 prisoners lost their life by suiciding, tortured or illness.

* 926 prisoners are ill and 331 of them are heavily.
