Witness of Şırnak, Cizre and Nusaybin Birlik : We shall not stay silence but struggle

VAN – Witness of demolished cities Şırnak, Cizre and Nusaybin HDP’s lawmaker Leyla Birlik ‘ This system and power lost its humanity. It is needed to resist and struggle against this not to stay silence” told Birlik.

HDP’s (Peoples’ Democratic Party) lawmaker Leyla Birlik may be one of the most attention-grabbing name among the people who attend the ‘Conscience and Justice Watch’ of HDP in Van because she witnessed when Şırnak, Cizre and Nusaybin was destructed and her brother-in-law Hacı Lokman Birlik was dragged behind the panzer after he was killed. Also Birlik’s family was threatened, detained during this period. Lawmaker Birlik says she hasn’t any faith about law in Turkey anymore because the process she lived and she will not forgive this. Dihaber reporters Sedat Yılmaz and Özgür Paksoy asked questions to lawmaker Birlik at the Musa Anter Peace Park of Van.

* You are one of the most attention-drawing person in the park. Cizre, Nusaybin, Şırnak… You were witness of these cities about what happened there. How is being on the seeking justice now?

I feel heavier after your question. There was incredible resistance and horrible cruelty. A process that left a huge damage and pain. We lived what people had lived there. But of course people’s lived was more difficult. They wanted to kill me but they couldn’t. They couldn’t resist to people. We took many bodies of people on the street. We saw executions and torture traces on the bodies which shows us how injustice, lawlessness and cruelty was conducted in these cities.

* Is your faith dwindle away to justice after what you lived and witnessed?

I will not forgive. I can’t. It is not about only what I lived or what Hacı Lokman Birlik had lived. I am saying this because of what I witnessed in that period. Therefore I will not forgive because what they lived to people and to me. There is no already forgiveness conditions. Can it be in the future? We will take it by resisting. I hope there will be in the future. There is no way to forgive without dealing with what happened. This people are resisting and they will until end. But I don’t expect from this power to dealing with what happened.

*Then why are you here? How do you describe to being here? Is not it oppositeness?

Here is resistance line. The place is needed to being is exactly here. I prefer to be here rather than to stay silence against State of Emergence’s conditions.

Entirely justice and conscience removed in Şırnak and basement of Cizre. The real place where conscience was lost is in Şırkan. This system and power lost its humanity in Cizre, Sur, Şırnak, Silopi, Nusaybin and Sur. Therefore it is not time to stay silence but struggling by resistance and organizing.

* Is there any treatments you as HDP are exposed different than other parties such as AKP (Justice and Development Party) or CHP ( Republic People Party) ?

Attitudes towards HDP’s lawmakers weren’t same as to other parties after June 7 to November 4th. Neither law-enforcement law neither the assembly attituded same. Terrorizing HDP’s lawmakers were conducted and lawmakers were manipulated.

* After Hacı Birlik was killed, a police chief was bothering you and it is known by public opinion. And that police chief had been awarded. What is the last situation now?

This person has already statement that he mentioned ‘ I am ready to be judged in Lahey’ at his official room. What does it mean? That means he accept that he commit war crime and ready to being judged. This is a confession. But a deep power has his behind. This person is still police chief of Şırnak Police Headquarter. Despite we made an allegation, nothing happened.. So are we going to discuss the law anymore in this country ? Law has no meaning in this country for me They awarded a person who dragged bodies on the streets and who confessed what he did and he still on his duty.
