DİYARBAKIR – Blessing the grapes of Armenian Ceremony was conducted in Church of the Virgin Mary of Assyrian because of authorities didn’t allow Armenian to conduct in their Surp Gregos Church in Sur due to curfew.
Blessing the grapes of Armenian Ceremony which celebrates in the closest Sunday to August 15 every year couldn’t celebrated in their church Surp Gregos because of declared curfew in Sur of Diyarbakır. Therefore it was celebrated in Church of the Virgin Marry of Assyrian. Christians, Armenians and Assyrians in Diyarbakır gathered to celebrate the ceremony in the church.
Priest of the church Joseph (Yusuf) Akbulut spoke after the ceremony. “ Virgin Mary is mother of all of us like she is mother of messiah. August 15 is the date of when our mother reverted to sky. This ceremony is celebrated in all community of Christians” told Akbulut.
“ We should walk on the road of which is peaceful and Jesus Christ had drawn. Jesus Christ had told ‘ happy is the one who provide the peace’ and he always had been prayed for peace” told Akbulut.
Priest of Armenian Paramaz Mercan reacted they couldn’t celebrate their ceremony in their church. “ We wanted to go to our church to celebrate our ceremony. But governorship told us ‘there is no security’. We know they could let us go and we know they are making this consciously. They can’t stand even to our praying” told Mercan.
After ceremony ended, grape was offered to attenders.
