RAQQA –A child named Saleh Hesen Reşo from Sinjar had been captured by DAİŞ when he was 11 year-old and DAİŞ seized the Sinjar. He was Islamized by his twin by tortured after he was taken away from his family. Then he was taught religion and how to fight against QSD. Finally he was rescued by YJŞ in Raqqa.


Operation towards Raqqa named ‘Great War’ led by QSD (Democratic Syrian Forces) is continuing since 69 days. QSD forces took 50 percent of city center under the control until now and also all roads out to Raqqa were closed for DAİŞ (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) while rescuing civilians is continuing. Sinjar’s Women Units (YJŞ) had rescued a Yazidi child from Sinjar in Raqqa Operation.


Child named Saleh Hesen Reşo had been captured when he was 11 year-old while DAİŞ seized Sinjar. Reşo and his twin named Sebah were taken to Mosul after he was taken away from his parents and Islamized by tortured. According to Reşo, he had received military and religious education in Hama, Homus, Mansura, Tabqa and Raqqa. Reşo says 30 members of family are still slaved by DAİŞ and he doesn’t know where they are except his brother.



“ We were separated from women in Mosul and we were taken to a dungeon of Mosul with my twin. Then we were separated in that dungeon. I don’t remember how long I was kept in the dungeon. We were exposed to torture systematically and it was done to us because they wanted us to Islamized. Tens of Yazidis were killed because they didn’t accept to be Muslim. I accepted to be because I was scared.

Then we were sent to Raqqa with a group. But they weren’t saying to us where we were taken. I received military and religious education in there. I learnt how to use the gun” told Reşo.

“ I was with my twin brother during this period . We were staying in a city for three or four month. Some of them were teaching us and some of them were interested on us privately. We didn’t want to attend the lesson but we had to because we were scared. I could speak secretly with my brother in Kurdish. But when members of DAİŞ realized that we were speaking in Kurdish we were threatened. They were saying to us that it is not good speak in Kurdish for us” told Reşo.




Reşo says members of DAİŞ were mobilizing recent days and they were taken to Raqqa from Hama. “ I didn’t know we were taken to Raqqa because I never been in there before. I was kept in the center with members at first but then we were taken to fronts to fight. When the city and fronts were bombed, DAİŞ was stuck in the city. I also know some Yazidis children were fighting in the fronts of DAİŞ in Raqqa” says Reşo.




Reşo was rescued during an operation towards Old Raqqa Neigborhood after three years captivity. “ I was separated with my twin brother in Raqqa. My twin brother was in different group but we were close to each other. 10 members of DAİŞ were killed during operation before I was rescued. I don’t know what happened to my brother since I was rescued by YJŞ’ fighters” says Reşo.
