SİİRT – Family of prisoner Deniz Özdemir doesn’t have any news from his son who was taken by soldiers from Kürkçüler F Type Prison. Family said “ He was told ‘you have a trial’ and taken by soldier. We don’t have any news since he was taken from prison.”

Deniz Özdemir had been jailed on claim of ‘ being member of PKK’ (Kurdistan Worker’s Party) after he was exposed to torture during detention for two days on May 29 of 2016. Özdemir had been taken to Dicle of Diyarbakır by reason of ‘ you have trail’ by soldiers from prison. Family of Özdemir had applied to Justice Ministry via Adana Office of Human Right Association (İHD) twice. But Ministry didn’t respond to any application, said family.

Family says there is no any news about their son since August 8 that he was taken by soldiers. Mother Emine Özdemir (54) “ I don’t know what they want from my son. He had been taken to Dicle and we don’t have any news since then. I am a mother and we don’t know what to do if anything happens to my son. My son is kept in Dicle since five days. We went to commandership of Dicle to see my son but we weren’t allowed to see him. They don’t even share about his situation. I just want them to send back my son to prison. It is enough that he was exposed to torture. We will not have any information about my son if something happens to him. They just aim to accused him on a crime which he didn’t commit. He is exposed pressure and violence” said mother.


Father Naci Özdemir (61) says his son was exposed to tortures many times. “ We thought our son is dead because of torture for once. Then we learnt that he is alive after pictures of torture were released on the newspapers. We couldn’t even recognize him because of torture. He was sent to Kürkçüler T Type Prison of Adana after he was kept in custody for three days in Diyarbakır. There were still torture traces on his body when we were going to see him to the prison. He couldn’t even walk. He was kept alone in a single cell. He had launched a hunger strike for 48 days because of prison’s conditions. Despite he launched a hunger strike, conditions were changed” said father.

“ My son was taken to Dicle without arbitrarily. “ A specialized sergeant who took my son to Dicle informed me that my son was taken. He told me that my son will be taken to Dicle because of he has trial and told he will kept in Dicle for 10 days. My son told me that he doesn’t know why he was taken to there and asked us to send lawyer immediately” said father Özdemir.

Father also said they applied to right after he spoke with his son. “ I went to Diyarbakır right after I spoke with my son. I applied to İHD and called the sergeant who called me before. He gave me phone number of Dicle Commandership.Then I and Deniz’s lawyer went to commandership. Neither I nor Deniz’s lawyer were visited to my son. My son’s lawyer asked a report that we are not allowed to see my son but it was denied. We haven’t receive any news about my son since then” said father Özdemir.
