URFA – Roya Shain from Kobané is painting her feelings on canvas. She forced to migrate to Urfa when ISIL attacked to her land Kobané. Shain is mostly painting war and women pictures and she says “ Each Woman is a country”.
Shain forced to migrate with her family when ISIL attacked to Kobana in 15 September 2014. A young painter Shain had to discontinue her education after she had to left to Urfa. Now, she is painting mostly war and women figures. “ I firstly started to pencil. Later water mark and now oil paint. Many paints of mine were sold until now. It doesn’t matter how much price it was sold for me. The matter is that people like the art I do.” Says Shain.
“After I left Kobané, I started to paint the war. Because our migrate lives had influenced me. I paint the migration from Kobané to Turkey. This art bit tells the story of when we crossed the border. Women are crossing the border with their children. We lived the war and I was influenced” said Shain.
Shain says she could save in last minute one of her art bit from the fire. She show the art bit which is a little bit already burnt. “Many of my art bits left in Kobané. This place you see in the picture is Kobané. This old man is upset due to war in his country. I cant talk to much and I cant tell the war. But I am trying to tell with painting. It wasn’t easy to leave my country. It is also not easy a 75-year-old person to be a witness when her/his country is under the fire” says Shain.
Shain also paints women besides the war. “ Each woman is a country. I am already painting women faces since I was a child. A woman face tells you many things. Sadness, A women holds all by it self many things. İn this art bit, woman says ‘see me!’. An upset woman but strong and brave. I also painted Egyptian, Arab, Turk women pictures as well
