İSTANBUL – One of the 64 founder of AKP Fatma Bostan Ünsal said “ Crisis abroad and at home is unsustainable. According to Bostan , resolve the crisis passes to pasification of Kurdish peace.

Bostan compared the AKP’s beginning policies and recent policies.





* You were one of the founder of AKP (Justice and Development Party) and became power with 34 percent of votes. Firstly I would like to ask can you tell something about purpose of establishment of AKP and how do you compare its recent policies?

I am politic scientist. From my stand point state gets support from the society and makes act, law for society’s expectations. But this is not enough. Because State also needs to criticize itself whether it had satisfied the expectation of society or not. State was seeing some expectations as illegal. For example hijab was illegal.

The important thing for me AKP wasn’t seeing any expectations as illegal. In this context hijab was concerns of many women in Turkey. 65 percent of women were wearing hijab and before AKP was established many of these women had been alienated from work and education. Same thing is for the Kurdish Question. Many of Kurdish citizen had requests and these requests should have been recognized.

Many questions of hijab had been get through but Kurdish People requests even right to stand for election is blocked. 65 percent of votes elected mayor is discharged and trustee is appointed. Elected PMs are jailed. This is seriously violating the right to politic. Same for freedom of press as well. But that doesn’t means it will take longer. It never goes like that. There is hope anytime.



* Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had said “ Kurdish Question is my question and I will resolve it” while he was Prime Minister. But now he says “ there is no Kurdish Question” again. How did he come to this point?

Unfortunately Peace Process couldn’t continued. There were many peace process. Oslo was failed. How do we comment Oslo failing? We comment KCK’s (Kurdistan Communities Union) arrests. We also say Fetullah Gülen Organization was behind KCK’s arrests with intend of leave Kurdish Question unresolved. Then they put many name for the peace process such as “ National Unity”. There will be another peace process and Turkey will get through this time. Because there is no any choice else.



* Turkey is in political impasse with its Middle East policies, specifically Syria , and process with EU. Also Economic Crisis is raising. How did Turkey become this situation?

This kind of problem such as economic crisis can be catalyzer. I mean, some time crisis acceleratingly affects to some solutions.



* Turkey’s people were hopeful when AKP was established. It had been supported by many different groups. But now most of these groups are criticizing the recent policies of AKP. What happened? Why did this groups cut the umbilical cod?

Turkey had always military or judicial tutelage democracy. We can say praetorian democracy as well. Politicians had voice limited. Turkey got through of these problems. But the democracy is just beginning for Turkey.

There is only a rule of politic science : Power blemishes , absolute power blemishes absolutely. Therefore people will find balance mechanism for Democracy. There are some negative situations but Turkey’s democracy is the stage of development.



* You were also one of the signatory for the Peace Declaration and after the State of Emergence you were dismissed from your university where you worked…



Investigation was made about me after the declaration of State of Emergence. Also another investigation was launched on charge of that I was Fetullah Gülen Organization then I was dismissed by Decree with Power of Law. Officially I wasn’t dismissed due to signatory for the Peace Declaration.



* How does Turkey overcome the crisis?

We saw on Colombia example. 250 hundred people lost their life. A war which no one wins. There is a sentence about this : The worst peace is better than the best war. Turkey can’t continue to war. We see everyday people die. Also we see military mobilize on abroad as well. Overcome from this problem passes from Kurdish Peace.



* Presidential Governmental is on agenda now. Do you think Presidential Government is solution for democracy crisis?

There should be balance mechanism. As you see in United States, there is no relatives of president in Government. Because there are rules. But you see there is no such a rule in Saudi Arabia . It needs to established such mechanism and respect it. Turkey put law rules but no respect. In fact law exists for people’s idly. But generally we prefer not follow the rules. Therefore we need to be careful. Tayyip Erdoğan will not be president forever, someone else will be and if we don’t establish a balance system then we will do the worst thing to politic power.

Fatma Ünsal was one the founder of AKP and took charge as AKP vice chair person. After the difference of opinion, Ünsal separated from AKP and continued her politic life as activist.

Ünsal also was human shiled before US entered the Iraq in 2003 when she was vice chair of AKP.
