Heavy Loss of Re-extended State of Emergency

ANKARA – Turkish Government extended State of Emergency for three months again. During the six months of state of Emergency over 100 thousand people included HDP PMs, co-mayors, academicians, journalists were detained or jailed and also numbers foundations, newspapers, radio and Television channels were closed.



According to Human Rights Watch (HRW) data on November, torture implementations raised after State of Emergency decelerated in Turkey.



12 HDP PM jailed




Operations towards Kurdish politicians raised as well after State of Emergency. On November four, police raided to Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) PMs house at night and jailed 12 PMs included co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ.




69 co-mayors of DBP jailed




Interior Ministry appointed trustees to 51 municipality of Democratic Regions Party (DBP) included Van, Mardin and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipalities which had won local election on 30 March 2014 by Decree with Power of Law. Also 69 co-mayors of DBP were jailed.




85 thousand public servant discharged




According to data, 85.682 public servant were discharged by Decree with Power of Law during state of emergency.



468 association closed




374 associations were closed by Decree with Power of Law which published on July 23. Later Interior Ministry announced that 94 associations’ activities were suspended on November 30.




113 journalists jailed




According to Free Journalists Committee (ÖGC) reports, 113 journalists were jailed during state of emergence and total jailed journalists raised to 143. Also five news agencies, 16 television channels, 24 radio channels, 19 magazines, 29 publishers were closed and theirs properties were seized.Therefore over 900 journalists became unemployment.



168 women slaughtered




Slaughtered women by men also raised during the state of emergency. According to Adana Women Platform, We Will Stop to Women Murders Platform and BİANET online newspaper reports, 168 women were slaughtered by men between July and November.
