Report of Sur discomforted by ministry

DİYARBAKIR – Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry demanded a report about Sur from Diyarbakır Preservation of Cultural Assets above demand of UNESCO. Ministry annoyed on “ ….was damaged by tank artillery” part and asked second report. Tank part was removed on the second part.

Curfew is continuing since over a year in historic Sur county of Diyarbakır where is put under the protection by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Destruction is also continuing in six streets of Sur after “Emergence expropriation” decision of the ministerial cabinet. UNESCO asked information from Culture and Tourism Ministry after reaction on destruction of the city’s architectural texture.

Thereupon the ministry asked report from Diyarbakır Preservation of Cultural Assets.

According to latest information, 220 historic places were damaged and 50 historic places completely were destroyed by Turkish Armed Forces as on mentioned report. After the report Ministry called the authorities of the Diyarbakır Preservation of Cultural Assets to Ankara. Minister Nabi Avcı transmitted his discomfort about the report. After the meeting with Minister Avcı , second report was written and the mentions which minister discomforted was removed
