Police intervenes the groups on May 1 : Numbers people taken into custody

İSTANBUL – Police intervened to groups who wanted to celebrate Worker Day in Taksim Square where governorship banned to celebrate. Numbers people were taken into custody in Gayrettepe, Talimhane and Beşiktaş. It was also reported two women were taken into custody in Taksim while they were opening a banner in Taksim Square.



Many different politic groups insisted to celebrate May 1, International Worker Day in Taksim Square where Istanbul Governorship banned to celebrate. Police intervened the groups while they were trying to reach the square.




It was reported two women from Struggle Unity ( Mücadele Birliği) were taken into custody while they were opening a banner at the square. Women named Pınar Kara and Gamze İyidoğan chanted “Glory be May 1 “ while they were taken in to police car.






A group included members of ESP ( Socialist Party of Oppressed ), Kaldıraç, Struggle Unity, Anarchists, construction workers gathered in front of Gayrettepe Metro Station to walk Taksim Square. After a while police intervened the groups by gas. It was reported numbers people were taken into custody.



Revolutionist Youth Movement members walked to Taksim Square from Talimhane. Police intervened the group and took 12 people into custody.




It was also reported that 25 members of HKP (Peoples’ Liberation Party) were taken into custody while they were trying to reach Taksim Square from Beşiktaş.
