A story of a woman in Tabqa : I watched my daughter's death during a day

RAQQA – Sewra Hemud Al Hemdé who were kept in prison for 17 days and tortured because she smoked cigarette told how she watched her 16 year-old daughter was killed on the street because she refused to wear burqa. Hemde is now mourning over her daughter was killed.

After Democratic Syria Forces (QSD) liberated Tabqa city numbers civilian were rescued from DAİŞ (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) cruelty. Sewra Hemud Al Hamdé is one of the civilian who exposed to DAİŞ’s cruelty and rescued by QSD.

Two children’s mother Hemde (39) was living in a neighborhood of Tabqa before DAİŞ seized the city. “ I lost my husband three years ago by a bombardment. I was jailed by DAİŞ because I was smoking cigarette. I was kept in a single cell for 17 days. I was beaten by masked guards for 17 days. They even broke my finger which I was smoking with. They also tortured me in front of my six-year-old son’s eyes. In fact my son cries even some stranger comes close to me” said Hemde.

“ I was released after 17 days in prison. I was mentally depressed and almost gone mad because I haven’t seen even a face in a dark room during 17 days” says Hemdé and mentions cruelty didn’t end with imprisonment. “ They were forcing to my 16 year-old daughter Firyal to wear burqa. I told them numerous time that my daughter was too young to wear it. My daughter didn’t want to wear burqa. Then they had shot to her on the street. I took my daughter with blood to home because they didn’t let me bring my daughter to hospital or anywhere else. I couldn’t help to my daughter in blood and she lost her life another day at morning. I watched my daughter’s death. My daughter was too young and they took her in front of my eyes” said Hemdé.

Hemdé says she couldn’t even mourn of her daughter until the city was liberated by QSD. “ When city was liberated I could cry and begin to mourn. I am wearing blacks because of my daughter’s death. I knew they would pay for all thing they did to us. Those all dirty people destroyed our lives. But Tabqa is free now. We need to unit against this cruelty and to stop to being enslaved by those people anymore. We need to defend ourselves” said Hemdé.
