VAN – Poet Niyazi Sönmez Library which was opened by elected co-mayors of Gürpınar Municipality was closed by appointed trustee. Old public bus was transformed to public library by elected co-mayors.




Osman Doğramacı who was appointed to Gürpınar Municipality of Van as trustee continues to close public services spaces. Appointed trustee closed the library on claim of “ propaganda for illegal organization”.




People of Gürpınar were giving deep interest to the library which had numbers world classics, Kurdish stories and dictionary, philosophy and poem books.



Poet Niyazi Sönmez’ son Ali Sönmez reminded people decided to give name of his father to the library. “ People of Gürpınar are respectful to my father. Therefore they named to the library and it was closed by un elected person. Unfortunately name of my father was considered as crime element” said son Sönmez.
