Numbers people were exposed to police violence during Gezi Resistance on 2013. Journalists are victim of police violence too during Gezi process. According to report over 100 journalists were exposed to police violence during Gezi Process and some of them were fired because of they made news about the process of Gezi.
Gökhan Kazbek is one of those journalists who lost his job because he made news about Gezi. Kazbek was working for TRT ( State Television of Turkey) during Gezi and he was fired because he shared a picture in his social media account. “ We were asked to not make news about Gezi. Therefore we couldn’t make any news about Gezi in TRT. But in my off days, I sent news report to other agencies and television channels. Then I was asked to defense my self because I made news about Gezi despite I was warned. Finally I was fired from TRT.
“ After I was fired, I found a job in IMC which was closed by decree during state of Emergency. After Gezi, journalism became a quite hard profession in this country. Number people are unemployed right now. So journalism organizations should unite and find a solution for journalism and journalists” said Kazbek.
Etkin News Agency (ETHA) reporter Serdal Işık is another journalist who followed the news during Gezi process. “ I had breathing problem because of gas bombs during Gezi and I was shot from my back by plastic bullet of police. These are the things only I lived. But my friends were wounded by gas capsule, lost their life or eyes because of police violence. We did hard job during Gezi. But now it is harder than ever. Because even saying ‘I am journalist’ is dangerous in Turkey. Journalists are jailed or fired from their job” said Işık.
