DİYARBAKIR – Bar of Diyarbakır met with people of Sur who are forced to leave their home. Bar president Ahmet Özmen “ People don’t want to leave their historic place. We will meet with authorities to carry of people’s demand.




Bar of Diyarbakır had met with people of Alipaşa and Lalebey Neigborhoods of Sur County after government forces people to leave their home.



Diyarbakır Bar president Ahmet Özmen made a statement after the meeting. “ People of Sur demand to not leaving here because most of them were born and grew up here. Therefore as Diyarbakır Bar we are against ‘Urban Transformation’. Sur means Diyarbakır. If there is no Sur, there is no Diyarbakır too. A serious destruction was conducted in Sur since six years. Unfortunately two more neighborhoods are demolished now. Bulldozers are demolishing everything discrimination whether its historic or not. We want people of Sur to being heard by authorities” said Özmen.



Özmen also reminded that UNESCO stays silence on destruction of Sur. “ We also met with officials of UNESCO but we didn’t reach to final solution with them” said Özmen and added “We will keep continue make contact with official for people of Sur.”
