İSTANBUL – Imprisoned interpreter of ETHA Meşale Tolu “ The one who aims to squelch us by jailing makes mistaken. We as journalists will not stay silence like Dicle News Agency (DİHA), Cumhuriyet, Özgür Gündem, Birgün and Evrensel Newspaper.




Interpreter of Etkin News Agency (ETHA) Meşale Tolu sent letter from Bakırköy Women Prison. Tolu said she is treated as ‘German Spy’ like they accused Die Welt Journalist Deniz Yücel.



“ The main reason I am jailed is that I am working for a socialist agency which supports peoples’ freedom of information and struggles against government censorship. But we as journalists will not stay silence like DİHA, Cumhuriyet, Özgür Gündem, Birgün and Evrensel Newspaper didn’t stay silence. Press workers who supports peoples’ freedom of information will continue to be voice of people even mainstream media ignores that there are imprisoned journalists in Turkey. I have been optimistic since I was taken into custody.

I am one of 159 imprisoned journalists in Turkey without any legal reason far away from my two-year-old son. I will tell my son when he grows up enough to understand that We were devoid of from our freedom because we defended freedom” said Tolu.
