ANKARA –Turkey threat KDP leader Barzani by launching a military operation named “ Tigris Shield” after Barzani decided a referendum for independence of Northern Iraq as Kurdistan.


Barzani’s referendum for independence decision caused strong reaction of Turkey. A number media outlets included pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak wrote “ Despite Turkey’s good intention, Barzani plays with Turkey by letting PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) deploying in Northern Iraq and trying to conduct an independence referendum.”

“ So called Federal Kurdistan Region which is guidance of United States will be targeted by cross border operation. It is claimed preparation Turkish Armed Forces ( TSK) on “ Tigris Shield” is made fast for ending occupation Sinjar by PKK and providing safe zone for Turkmens. After the operation Turkey will build better dialogue base with Central Iraqi Government” was written by the newspaper.

Meanwhile “Tigris Shield” had been planned by TSK and Federal Kurdistan Region to seize Sinjar where PKK took from DAİŞ ( Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant).
