İSTANBUL –Urgent Request was made to ECHR for imprisoned journalist Ömer Çelik who is jailed since 147 day without official accusation.
Closed Dicle News Agency’s (DIHA) reporter Ömer Çelik, reporter Metin Yoksu, former editor of Diken, ETHA ( Etkin News Agency) managing editor Derya Okatan, Birgün Newspaper’ accounting supervisor Mahir Kanat and Yolculuk Newspaper chief in editor Eray Saygın had been taken into custody on December 25 of 2016 by police raids because of reported news about leaked e-mails of Minister Berat Albayrak.
After 24 days detention period Ömer Çelik, Tunca Öğreten and Mahir Kanat were jailed on claim of “being member of illegal organization. Despite 147 passed accusation file of journalist wasn’t prepared yet. Reporter of Die Welt Deniz Yücel was jailed on same charge and he is jailed since 116 days.
It was reported lawyers of Ömer Çelik applied to European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) because long imprisonment period without accusation file.
According to lawyers, articles 3, 5, 10, 13 of ECHR agreement were discriminated during imprisonment period of journalist.
