Former co-chair of HDP Yüksekdağ's trial begins

ANKARA – Former co-chair of HDP Figen Yüksekdağ’s trial is to be heard roday after 242 days of imprisonment. Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ankara will attend the trial as prosecutor of the trial.




Former co-chair of HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Figen Yüksekdağ goes on trial after 242 days of imprisonment. Yüksekdağ had been taken into custody by decree of Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office of Diyarbakır in Ankara and jailed at the same day on November 4 of 2016.



According to accusation file, Yüksekdağ is judged on claim of ‘being member of illegal organization’ and ‘opposing to law on meetings and demonstrations’. Yüksekdağ is facing with up to 83 years prison sentence. The trial will be heard at 14.00 in Ankara.




According to received information, over thousand lawyers extended the court for defending Yüksekdağ. It is expected some of lawyers to attend the trial.



It was also reported a large number of people included lawyers, women activists were blocked from different cities while they were trying to come to Ankara to attend the trial. Despite a large number of cars were stopped on road to Ankara, numerous people succeed to attend the trial.




Meanwhile A group with 23 people included lawyers and lawmakers from Germany, Holland, France, England and Italy came to Ankara for monitoring the trial.
