Progressive Journalist Association of Turkey : 103 journalists are imprisoned

NEWS BUREAU –ÇGD released its annual report. According to report, 318 journalists were taken into custody during state of emergency , 103 were jailed and a thousand 404 press workers were fired from their job.




Progressive Journalist Association (ÇGD) released its media reports which association releases every year since 2015. ÇGD released its report about media report between April-May-June of 2017. It was reported oppressions has raised towards speech of freedom, journalists and press last three months.




According to report, 39 journalists included two foreigner journalists were taken into custody during April-May-June of 2017 and 26 of them were jailed. 37 cases had continued during these three months and 20 of them were determined. 15 cases were determined with prison sentence. It was also mentioned at the released report that eight online newspapers were blocked during three months period and six journalist were exposed to violence, one journalist’s houses was shoot, three foreigner journalists were deported and 89 journalists were fired from their job during three months.




Balance sheet of one year during state of emergency was shared as well in the report. According to report, 318 journalists were taken into custody during first year of state of emergency and 103 of them were jailed, 18 journalists were targeted, one journalist lost his/her life, two news agencies were closed, 25 news agencies were blocked, 147 media outlets were closed, a thousand 404 journalists were fired from their job, 32 press cards of parliamentary were canceled, 624 press cards were canceled, four foreigner press workers were deported and one journalist’s house was shot.



It was also mentioned in the report that properties of closed media outlets were given to pro-AKP (Justice and Development Party) media outlets. “ Properties of closed Samanyolu TV, Kanaltürk TV, Burç FM, Kanaltürk Radio, Radio Mehtap and Radio Cihan were given to pro-AKP Turkuvaz Media Outlet without bid and announcement” mentioned in the report.
